Assignment:

Hmm… Infinite horizons. I am not sure what that means. Being that my intelligence is lacking on this, I asked artificial intelligence for help:

“A photo of infinite horizons”

So this is easier than I thought, I don’t have to divide by zero to get an infinite thing going, I just have to put the horizon out a long way off!

There is also the leading lines thing. So horizons and leading lines. Of course the first thing to come to mind is the classic photo of railroad tracks leading off to a vanishing point. I have taken those kind of photos in the past. For this assignment I was thinking that I wanted something different, <<hmm, pondering>>.

Leading line Ideas:

  • Power Lines
  • Roads
  • Bridges
  • Buildings
  • River/Stream

Now how to connect to an “infinite horizon”? I decided to go north up to the Eureka Flats area. The Eureka Flats is a high plateau of mostly wheat fields and, also, mostly flat undulating land, which would facilitate a far off horizon. So I did find this:

It does check several boxes, we have a road, a power line, and a far off horizon. But…

But, I wanted something else! Something that wasn’t so clicheeee, (new word). So I traveled on looking for the next great thing.

How about them’s leading lines! I’ve got a railroad, a fence/gate thing, a river, and, look close… power lines! And at no extra cost, an “infinite” horizon! Hooray!

But.

But, I don’t like it. It’s too busy and forced.

However the day was getting along, and needed to do something useful, instead of running around the countryside wasting time and gas. So I headed home. As I was driving along, thinking about which of the images that I had captured would work for the assignment, I came over a gap and saw the scene pictured below. I kept driving since “I really needed to get home”, but the further I drove the more the scene played in my mind.

Should I?

Should I turn around and try to capture it?

Should I waste more time and gas?

I did.
